The Balance of Power and Voltage
When you’re picking a lamp, the relationship between voltage and wattage is what really determines how “aggressive” the heat is. Want a massive punch of energy in a tiny space? We can push a lot of wattage through a small footprint. For example, cramming 2000W into a 300mm tube creates an intense concentration of heat. It ramps up incredibly fast. But there’s a catch. That kind of intensity puts a lot of stress on the quartz. If your voltage jumps around or you try to push the circuit too hard, you’re going to fry the filament. It’s a powerful tool, but you have to treat it with a bit of respect.
The Nitty-Gritty: Quartz and Connectors
We use high-purity quartz for the outer shell because we want as much IR transmission as possible. Since these are “clear,” there are no coatings bouncing the energy back inside. Everything just heads straight out toward your target. As for the plugs, we stick with R7s or Sk15 connectors. Why? Because they just work. You can swap a lamp out without having to tear apart your entire wiring bank. Plus, they’re designed to handle the way the lamp expands as it gets hot, so you don’t lose your electrical connection right when you need it.
Where This Actually Matters
You’ll see these working hard in PET blowing machines or paint curing lines. In those worlds, every second counts. Slow cycle times are basically lost money. By hitting the material instantly with shortwave radiation, you keep things moving. One quick tip: keep your reflectors clean. I mean really clean. Even a thin layer of dust on the mirror messes with the focal point. When that happens, the lamp has to work harder and run hotter just to do its job, which isn’t great for the life of the bulb. Keep the mirrors shiny, and the lamps will take care of the rest.
